Volunteer

The Health Education Council is always looking for volunteers to participate on our various projects. Whether you are willing to make a long-term commitment with our organization, or are interested in one or two events a year, we want you to be a part of our team. If you would like more information about volunteering with the Health Education Council or are interested in participating on a specific project, please fill out our volunteer form and fax it to 916-446-0427 so that one of our friendly staff members can contact you soon.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering opportunities and tasks are dependant upon program needs.  Generally a volunteer will work closely with the program coordinators, assistants, interns, and community partners.  The volunteer will assist with a multitude of tasks which may include the following:

  • Assist with identifying community based organizations, direct health providers and other agencies that reach our populations for possible collaborations
  • Assist with coordination and execution of health fairs, food tasting demonstrations, trainings, surveys and evaluations
  • Help teach tobacco cessation classes for at risk youth and young adults
  • Research health trends for abstract submission possibilities
  • General office help such as filing, answering phones, scanning documents, mailings
  • Research in local publications for health news and grant or sponsorship opportunities
  • Assist with the Annual HEC Golf Tournaments
  • Assist with coordination and execution of health fairs, food tasting demonstrations, trainings, surveys and evaluation

Requirements

  • Effective oral, writing, organizing, communication and inter-personal skills
  • Self motivated, hard working, and dependable
  • Comfortable working with diverse audiences and various levels of staff, volunteers and public
  • Able to work some weekends and evenings as needed
  • Effective computer skills including Word and Excel for Windows
