Network for a Healthy California-Gold Country Region
The Health Education Council provides coordination and support for community based nutrition and physical activity education and program development to achieve the goals of the Network in Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mono, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tuolumne, Yolo, and Yuba counties.  The Network includes targeted campaigns serving diverse, low income communities.

Network for a Healthy California-African American Campaign
Improves the health of low income African Americans by offering education, tools and training for advocacy that empower African Americans and their families to consume the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables and physical activity.


Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Collaborative
A collaboration of agencies working toward similar goals in the Gold County region.  The vision of the collaborative is that the Gold Country Region has an informed population that eats healthy foods and is physically active within communities that support healthy lifestyles.  Administers a 'mini grant' program to nurture and support emerging obesity prevention programs in low income communities.

Network for a Healthy California-Power Play! Campaign
Partnering with schools, after school programs, community agencies and other groups to reach 9-11 year old children and families to consume the recommended amount of fruits, vegetables and physical activity.

Network for a Healthy California - Latino Campaign
Designed to improve the health of low income Latino adults and their families through education, tools and training to empower Latinos and their families to consume the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables and physical activity and reduce chronic conditions such as diabetes.


Network for a Healthy California-Worksite Program
Promotes healthy worksites that support health promotion programs, healthy eating consumption and physical activity for low wage workers.





Network for a Healthy California - Physical Activity Program
Integrates physical activity lessons, workshops and curricula into all nutrition education and outreach programs. 




Retail Program
Partners with California Supermarkets, small chains, and independent grocery store to increase the purchase and consumption for fruits and vegetables among low-income families.  Working with the Retail Program may help stores reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer in our communities.


After School Nutrition and Physical Activity Leadership Program
Offers training and support for high school after school programs to actively engage youth in changing the food and physical activity environment in their neighborhoods.


 In the Grow
A childhood obesity prevention program for children ages 0-5 and their families.  Provide garden education, nutrition and physical activity curriculum training for teachers in the classroom, at Head


Valley Hi Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Zone Initiative of South Sacramento : The Valley Hi HEAL Zone initiative aims to improve healthy eating and enable active living within the South Sacramento neighborhood of Valley Hi.  The vision of Valley Hi HEAL Zone is that by the end of the three-year initiative, people eat better and move more as part of daily life.  We will achieve this vision by increasing the opportunities for residents to engage in healthy behaviors and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy lifestyle choices.  This project is funded by Kaiser Permanente and coordinated by the Health Education Council.

FEED (Food Education Equity and Diversity) Coalition
A food security project that established the first community-based farmers market in the low income neighborhood of Del Paso Heights in Sacramento, California.  FEED also conducts garden based nutrition and physical activity education  and training for at risk youth in a 4 county region.  FEED staff provides assistance to organizations to increase access to produce and healthy foods and culturally relevant health education programs.
