Walking and Social Connection

Building Social Connection, Health through Walking

Social connection – feeling supported and known by a group of people – is a powerful driver of health. Your support of the Health Education Council fuels walking groups across Sacramento County. The groups, centered in a park or at a school, bring residents together for social support and physical activity. Walking with friends is a simple, low cost way to build health AND a sense of community.

New Video Features HEC Walk with Friends Group

Health happens in communities because of people like Phyllis Lusan and her team of Valley Hi volunteers. Phyllis and her team bring walking, social connection and a free fresh produce stand to their community. This great video highlights the inspiring connections in Valley Hi! Thank you to our partners at Common Ground Church and the Sacramento Food bank.

Walk with Friends: Is There a group near You?

Our Walk with Friends groups are led weekly by Resident Champions who help their neighbors learn about healthy living and motivate them to walk regularly. Wouldn’t you like to see a Walk with Friends group in every neighborhood? A donation from you could help make that happen.
