4th Annual Sacramento School Wellness Summit

The summit will be held over September 19 - September 21, 2023 from 3:30pm-4:30pm and will consist of sessions exploring current nutrition trends; physical activity and self-care; and wellness and gardening. This year's theme is “Harmony and Health: Fueling the Future with Wellness." Please see below for a glimpse of some of our great sessions:

Tuesday 9/19: 2023 Trends Shaping the Education Environment

  • This interactive presentation will highlight findings from the 2023 Trends for Educators and Health Professionals publication, including topics such as the rise in “Food is Medicine”, a food-forward approach to improving diet quality and health in key life stages, economic uncertainty and dairy sustainability efforts. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how current trends impact them personally and the greater nutrition and education environment they engage in and/or support. As well as identify opportunities to enhance touch points for nutrition and ag literacy in schools.

Wednesday 9/20: See-Hear-Do-Engage: A Framework for Schoolwide Physical Activity Promotion and Healthy Culture Building

  • If we want students to make the decision to be physically active, eat well, and take care of their overall health, we must provide them with enjoyable experiences and a school environment that teaches, supports and encourages physical activity and other healthy behaviors and mindsets. This session will introduce participants to the evidence-based See-Hear-Do-Engage framework for schoolwide health and wellness promotion and adoption. Participants will walk away with real world strategies and resources that are fun and easy to implement with their school communities.

Thursday 9/21: Inspiring Kids to Eat their Veggies

  • This session will explore Food Literacy Center’s K-6th grade cooking and nutrition program models and will provide helpful examples of how empowering students in the kitchen can be an effective tool to inspire lifelong healthy habits. Participants will also learn about the importance of collaboration and developing a wide net of partnerships to increase impacts.

Attendees are also eligible to receive professional development credit for attending the Sacramento School Wellness Summit if their department approves it. Attendees can also receive incentives for attending sessions and completing the post-session surveys.

Those who attend all 3 sessions and complete each post-session survey will be entered into a raffle for a $100 Target gift card. Those who attend 2 or more sessions and complete the post-session survey will be entered into a raffle for two $25 Target gift cards. Those who attend one session and complete the post-session survey will be entered into a raffle for five $10 Target gift cards.
